The most important lesson I have learned is that I can take any role and make it my own.

Although mentors are important, having an advocate and sponsor is imperative.

Be the one who volunteers for difficult tasks. People will notice.

I am a strong believer that even though African Americans might face many barriers as they try to advance their careers, their first focus should be excelling in their performance.

First impressions are very important. Someone starting his or her career should be positive, proactive, and willing to volunteer.
