My parents, because they encouraged me to believe in myself. Looking back, I never once thought that being a girl, first generation immigrant, or coming from a family of moderate means, was ever a deterrent to my achieving my goals.
Build trusting relationships with a few peers who will have the green light to be honest with you. I was lucky enough to have someone early in my career tell me, “Tony, you are failing…” It was a wake-up call.
My most influential mentor was my credit manager, with whom I worked in my first year in banking. I admired his “lead-by-example” leadership style and his great sense of humor.
